P2P Fundraising Guide
Thank you so much for helping us fundraise for Sing Through the Quarantine!
Peer-to-Peer (P2P) fundraising is a type of fundraising where people reach out to their personal connections to fundraise for an organization or cause they care about. As a grassroots organization, it’s the type of fundraising we depend on in order to continue to serve our students!
To simplify this process for you, our loyal champions, we’ve created this step-by-step guide.
Email Annalise@girlswritenashville.com if you have any questions.
Build your fundraising page.
Go to the fundraising link HERE
Click on the “I want to fundraise for this” button
Create your account and set up your page using the text provided (see at the bottom of this page) as a jumping-off point for your “WHY”
Click “save” and you’ll be directed to your own personal fundraising page for Girls Write Nashville and Sing Through the Quarantine. You can share this page with your contacts and on all your social media platforms.
2. Create your list of donors.
People are much more likely to donate to an organization if someone they know is already advocating for the cause. Here are some ideas you can use to create your initial list of donors you want to reach out to.
College clubs
High school and alumni groups
Spouse/partner’s contacts
Church groups
Neighbors
Book Club members
Friends of friends
Staff contacts
Linkedin connections
Former employees, employers, and coworkers
Clients and their connections
Fraternity/Sorority
Phone contacts
Friends and family (especially music lovers)
Facebook friends and other social media followers
Email contacts
Local Musicians or other music industry professionals
Coworkers
Wedding invite list
Holiday card list
Physical address books
Professional group memberships
3. Make the ask!
Believe it or not, this is the hardest part! It’s hard to ask other people for things. But, if you follow these tips, you’ll be a fundraising PRO in no time.
Remember: You’re not asking anyone for a favor. (Awkward!) You’re inviting someone to be a part of doing good work in your community. (YAY FUN!) We always love to emphasize that if someone is unable to donate financially, they can contribute by sharing the fundraiser on their own social media pages and by listening to the album.
Ways to ask
Post on social media. When posting, always give some context as well as reposting your personal fundraiser link.
Reach out directly over phone, text, or email! This is the most successful way to fundraise and is a great excuse to call and have a chat with some people you’ve been meaning to catch up with.
make it personal
People are much more likely to donate to an organization if someone they know is already advocating for the cause. Share your personal story of why Girls Write Nashville is meaningful to you and why you think it’s worthy of support!
OFFER TO MATCH YOUR FRIENDS DONATIONS UP TO AN AMOUNT YOU ARE COMFORTABLE WITH!
Ex: “I’m fundraising for Girls Write Nashville because I believe in their mission of inclusive, empowering creative education and community. I’m asking my friends to donate to this cause and will match all donations made up to $200.”
IF YOU’RE A MUSICIAN/ARTIST…
Engage fan base by offering an exclusive incentive for people who donate! This could be anything such as a fireside chat, free demo, new song, or a quick online concert.
post and ask often, and post lots of updates
It usually takes people multiple times of seeing something before they take action. Post your fundraiser multiple times, talk about it constantly, and if you have a friend that seems interested but didn’t donate, follow up with them because they probably just forgot!
We call this the Fundraising Hustle and it is very real.
say thank you
When someone donates, text/call them to say thank you (because that person is awesome) and then make a social media post thanking them publicly! Not only will it make your friend feel good but it will inspire others to give as well.
why now?
Mention that it’s Women’s History Month and is our first official album release! (Previous albums have not been able to go up on streaming platforms). We’re celebrating women in music history and the legacy that our students are continuing!
